Like our school's founder, we reckon ourselves pioneers: change-makers unafraid to be the first to do great work. Mount Holyoke is the oldest women's college in the United States, and, true to this spirit, we were the first women's college to host a hackathon. HackHolyoke is a 24-hour hackathon that welcomes 200 hackers from around the country to be fearless, to truly be innovative, and to develop brilliantly new and disruptive technologies.

Judging Criteria

  • General Rubric
    Hack should demonstrate complete understanding of the technology used. It should be implemented completely and should present the expected behaviour. Hack should look visually appealing. Web front end as well as hardware used should be clean.
  • Ambition
    What’s the project’s ambition? What do they try to solve or improve?
  • Implementation
    Does the project implement appropriate/ effective technology?
  • Innovation
    Does the project introduce a new approach or perspective?
  • Functionality
    Does the project function as intended? Is it working and easy to use?
  • Fit
    Does the project fit in to the prompt?
